Default Cigar Review: Tatuaje Havana VI

Cigar: Tatuaje Havana VI
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo 99’
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Nicaragua
Size: Nobles 5×50 Robusto
Price: $7.50 at local B&M (the expensive one) can be had much cheaper elsewhere

Initial Thoughts: This cigar is made in Don Pepin’s Tabacalera Cubana factory in Esteli, Nicaragua for Pete Johnson, owner of Tatuaje Cigars. This is a very nice looking cigar. The wrapper has a nice oily sheen to it and as always with Pete Johnson; this cigar is constructed very well. I like the nice simple red Tatuaje band. Let’s fire up this cigar!

Flavors: This cigar starts off spicy and earthy but after the initial “Pepin-Blast” the cigar settled into a nice woodsy sweetness. I also pick up some notes of coffee along the way and some leather notes come and go throughout the cigar. The cigar doesn’t change in flavor much throughout, but still has good flavor.

Smoking Characteristics: This cigar produced a nice volume of smoke. The draw was good but the cigar did need some touch up as I went along. However, I have smoked quite a few of these and have had some issues where the wrapper did not want to burn on. The ash was nice and compact and fell off at about the inch mark.

Final Thoughts: Overall I really like this cigar. It’s a nice alternative to the high priced Miami (brown label) line. Of course it is not as rich and complex as the Miami line but I think it is a great value. I have really come to love everything Pepin makes. A lot of people are talking about how many blends he has been coming out with and wonder is he is over extending himself but to me, they all offer something a little different, but you still know your are smoking something Pepin.

Worth a Try: Yes
Buy Again: Yes, box worthy
Enjoyablity: Medium to High
Similar Cigars: Don Pepin Cuban Classic with more earthiness. Padilla 1968.
