Re: Cheap Smoke Thread
Couldn't stand it any longer seeing the Brahmas for a buck a stick at Holts I finally picked some up.
These are not the old Brahmas from a few years ago (which I still have a healthy supply of).
Old Brahmas still very strong - the aroma off the foot is loaded with Ligero, wrapper is very reddish/rosado (hence the nickname Brahma "reds") and despite 3 years rest they still need lots of touch-ups, they are big (true 54 gauge).
New Brahma -- Not nearly the amount of Ligero, just south of medium in strength but plenty of body and flavor, undercured corojo wrapper on many with "greenish" splotches, advertised as a 52 gauge but it is standard 50 x 50 robusto. Burn on the "New" Brahma is far better than the old Brahma "Reds".
The new Brahma IS NOT the same cigar as the old Brahma, despite Holts telling me they simply misplaced a large amount of the old Brahmas in the warehouse that is why they came back - which sounded very fishy. Despite that, it is worth the $1.00/stick. If you like bundle Tabacalara Tropical smokes I think you will find the "New" Brahma is right in line with the TT Factory Directs and Rare Connecticuts. Not nearly as well made or as strong as the old Brahma "Reds", but at $1.00/per the new ones are worth the price of admission IMO.
FWIW,
