Plenty of good decafs out there to be found, same as any bean it has to be fresh.
Learning to roast on decaf is a bit tricky, I have roasted a couple hundred pounds of beans but only 10 pounds of decaf and don't have a perfect handle on it. Still it is a valid and easy option, there are lots of good green decafs out there.
My suggestion is to drink enough coffee so you get used to the buzz and then you can sleep.
