Here's the question though, do you want a .500 season?
As a fan, the obvious answer is yes.
But will the Mets finishing strong, coming in at .500 or above, convince Sandy and the Wilpons that they are close, and therefore not make any major additions?
Sandy thought this was a 90 win team. If they finish with 81 or 82, I can see him rationalizing the return of Harvey, Duda's emergence, D'arnaud's second half, and Mejia in the bullpen from the start, are enough to get them to the playoffs.
If I were a Met fan, I would be rooting for the wheels to come off, and to slide back down in the standings. The last thing you want to do is give Sandy and the Wilpons a reason to spend less money!
