On a residential level, I've never bothered with the refrigerator step, I don't feel it's necessary, I just stick them right into a deep freezer (-10F) for a week and I've never had a cigar damaged by skipping it.

I have mine inspected and nitrogen packed in shipping and I've been okay so far.
