That just make me love my dog Gus more! They're not animals they're FAMILY! I love my "family" members just as much as my Mother, Father, Brothers, Sisters and so on. I'd go as far as die protecting them from any danger just as I'm sure they'd do the same for me. The bond is so unique and special.
