Re: E. P. Carrillo Elenco Series Elites
I just got to sample a maduro in this line, thanks to Ernesto (el hijo); big thanks to Tim (the Podman) and the Hernandez Brothers as well.
This one was either an Elite or an Acto Mayor; I should have taken note but I didn't know anything about the blend and was unaware of the names. A beautiful, flawless dark maduro wrapper entices; pre-light it was sweet and some spices came through; a hint of barnyard and also a slight edge of roughness...this was a very fresh stick, I think.
The first third was an explosion of flavors; creamy, with a delicious balance of fruit and wood. Copious amounts of smoke from this one.
In the middle and past the halfway point the flavors became more focused and steady, with wood and nutmeg pleasantly heavy on the palate and citrus in the background. Past the middle some mild, sweet coffee notes began to appear.
This didn't seem as powerful in terms of nicotine as other Carillos I've had in the past, but the intensity of flavor did not suffer one bit from that. I enjoyed this thoroughly to about the final-quarter mark.
According to Tim Podwika these aren't out yet, but this is certainly one that I'll be on the lookout for when it does hit.
