My wife is also afraid of shooting, so I told her to use the gun as a deterrent to an intruder. The threat of pumping a 12 gauge should be enough to make a bad guy think twice. If it's not, I taught her the good ol' butt stroke to the face followed by the butt stroke to the groin.
