Re: Baratza Vario

Thanks, Rob. The Capresso Infinity is going to get its gold watch and retire to a shelf in the garage, and the Vario is on its way. :D

Baratza Vario

I managed to snag a mid-grade espresso machine on ebay for a low-grade price, and I need to upgrade my grinder. If I get the espresso bug I will need to buy an HX machine at some point (so I am...

Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Warm Water Under a Red Bridge. :tu

Strange, but fascinating, and really well done. One of the better movies I've seen this year.

Re: What cigar did you smoke today II?

Tat J21. Good, but I think for the price I'll stick with the Cabinet Regios.

Re: Does the wrapper really impart 60% of the flavor?

Yes, maybe. I don't know about 60%... might be 59.95 on sale. But the difference is statistically significant, I believe. The 1495 Connoisseur pack is a great way to experiment. None of them are...

Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Just finished Homer and Langley by E.L. Doctorow
Started Middlemarch by George Eliot (not sure if I can finish this one) and Redbreast by Jo Nesbo.

Re: Happy Birthday, James Joyce

There actually is a child molester in Dubliners (maybe two, depending on how you define molester.) No Brownies that I can recall though. Unless you want to count Joyce's love letters to his wife,...

Re: What are you reading?

It's been a while since I read this, but the details that stick in my memory are his description of Rehnquist's poker games and the friendship between Scalia and Ginsburg. Political commentary is...

Re: What are you reading?

Hadrian and the Triumph of Rome -- Anthony Everitt. (sort of rough going so far, though interesting at points)

Anna Karenina -- Leo Tolstoy. (Pevear and Volokhonsky translation -- smooth as a...

Re: What was your last Scotch purchase?

Tried the Finlaggan over the weekend -- it's not Lagavulin by a long shot, but it's definitely Islay -- peat, salt, and iodine up the wazoo. For the price, I'm not disappointed.

Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Let the Right One In (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/lat_den_ratte_komma_in/) is really good as well. Unconventional, thoughtful, and very well crafted.

Re: What was your last Scotch purchase?

Finlaggan from Trader Joe's. I haven't tried it yet, but a decent Islay for 18 bucks seems like it's too good to be true. The reviews are mostly good though, likening it to a young Lagavulin....

Re: I lost a snake...

I'm not really a snake fan, but my wife is. A couple years ago we acquired a ball python which managed to escape. Instead of telling me that the snake got out, my wife went out and bought another one...

Re: RyJ Museum Edition (Fazzino) *Pics*

I stopped by my B&M and the Altadis rep happened to be there promoting these. I picked one up because the deal was one Museum Edition for 20 bucks and he'd throw in two other standard Altadis sticks...

Re: What are you reading?

The War that Killed Achilles by Caroline Alexander. A close and insightful reading of the Iliad. Scholarly, but not academic. Good stuff.
