Re: Upgrades: WineCooler/Humidor

They are calling the deadband the temperature differential. If you decrease it, you may also need to adjust the short cycle delay, since you are making the cycles shorter.

Re: Upgrades: WineCooler/Humidor

When the cooling system is on, it’s pulling moisture out faster than the beads can replace it. So, you RH drops until the system shuts down and the beads catch up. I do not know the capabilties of...

Re: Ashtray suggestions.

Neptune Cigar has it in stock.

I get that it looks like a great idea. But, in the real world, ashes are gonna migrate into the storage area. It’s inevitable.

Re: How To: Organizing cigars

I’ve got a coolerdor for my everyday cigars and another for the more expensive ones I only smoke on weekends. Most are either in their original boxes or in a used box labeled with masking tape. Some...

Re: Upgrades: WineCooler/Humidor

If your thermostat is set to 61 and your room is in the 70s, the refrigeration will need to constantly cool the interior. He cooling surfaces will condense water out of the air. So, it’s constantly...

Re: Upgrades: WineCooler/Humidor

The Boveda pacs have their uses, but the rate that water evaporates from them is slowed down by having to go through the packaging. If the issue is to rapidly supply moisture, I’d use a clean sponge....

Re: Cigars you enjoyed once upon a time

Maybe thatís what created mountains in the first place? :)

Re: Cigars you enjoyed once upon a time

Consuegras... so many Consuegras. I don’t know if I’d go back to them. But, maybe I should try an El Rey Del Mundo. I think one of my first good cigar box purchases was some Flor de la Vonda

Re: Thermoelectric Coolers

Manny, you’re talking about spending more on environmental control than on the box. If you did a poll of the members here, very few worry about temperature control. We do worry about relative...

Re: Thermoelectric Coolers

Thermoelectric systems (or any other heating / cooling system) in a humidor give you precise temperature control. But, they make it much harder to maintain the desired relative humidity. So, you’d...

Re: Cigar Federation

I agree that the schtick is reminiscent of Lew’s old line of BS. I used to enjoy reading his catalogs! But, if you read Lew’s copy for a while, you could tell what he thought was really good and what...

Re: If you where me....

Can't say I think much of the Infernos. There are lots of Oliva 5 packs in your price range on Cigarauctioneer with no bids on them.

Weelok's suggestion is also excellent!

Re: Cigar Federation

I order occasionally from Cigar Federation or the related Ezra Zion. I’ve never gotten a bad cigar from them. But, I also have never gotten a cigar that truly lived up to the hype and price. I guess...

Re: Famous Nic selection

I havenít had El Cobre in a while; actually have some in the mail now. The other cigars are made by companies I like.

Cubao - Ortega
Nica Libre potencia - Oliva
Nica Libre Aganorsa - Aganorsa...

Re: Famous Nic selection

I smoke the Nic 3000 sometimes. It used to be sorta a cult cigar, made by Oliva. Not sure if it still is. But, it’s a reasonable cheap cigar. It doesn’t”t have the enormous strength that is now sorta...

Re: Dry aging beef?

I received an ad today for a crowd funded dry ager on Kickstarter. Sorta a stainless humidor meant for meat. Actually, itís only a matter of time before someone starts a thread on how they are lining...

Re: Boveda

With respect, I recharge them all the time. I put a wet sponge with the green scrubby side up in the bottom of a plastic container . Then I pile packs on top. Takes a while but they will swell up...

Re: Open Box Cellar Storage

The absolute humidity (same as concentration) has a nonlinear relationship with temperature and relative humidity. You can google it. Back during the cigar boom, there were constant flame wars over...

Re: Zippo inserts and alternatives

I’ve used Zplus’s for a long time. They’re fine within the limitation that their flame is smaller than many torches. This probably helps conserve the fuel in the smaller tank. You can only stuff so...

Re: Isabela Firecracker

Thanks for a great review! I can’t decide about Isabela. There’re very well constructed but the flavor is unique. I can’t decide if I like it or not.

BTW, you forgot to mention if you reamed it...

Re: Cigars in Cinema

Does TV count?

Doctor Who, “The Ghost Monument” includes a cigar that lights itself with the snap of a finger. Jodie Whittaker is The Doctor.

Re: A Christmas humidity question...

I think you’re worrying about short term changes more than it’s worth. Those cigars travelled in a cargo ship on the ocean to get here and didn’t crack.

Tap water has different amounts of...
