Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

I had a tiny sample of this last week. You are spot on. I usually drink my bourbon neat, but this would benefit from a little water to open it up and mellow it out some. Gonna have to look for...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Had a few Elmer T Lee's last night. Very good bourbon, wish they sold it here in Ohio.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Is that the stuff in the little bottle? If so, yes. It was good but I don't think it was worth the money.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Well, had about a 1/3 of a bottle of the Rittenhouse last night. It was a little rough right out of the bottle, so I put a little water in and it mellowed nicely. Don't like it as much as the...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Might be comparing apples to oranges, but have you had any of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection ryes? If so, how do they compare?

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Never knew that WT made a rye. Will look for that next time I'm at the store. Thanks for the tip.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

I picked up a couple bottles of Rittenhouse Rye, bottled in bond, 100 proof. Never had it, but for $25 each, can't be all that bad. Gonna have some tonight with some cigars and meatball subs ...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

I tried some of this last night. Definitly was missing something. It didn't have the sweet, spicy that I've had in some ryes. I think I'll stick to the regular Bulleit.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Opened a bottle of Michter's Straight Rye the other night. I would be happy to have to drink this all the time, great stuff :D

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Blanton's would be a great start, albiet on the pricey side. Might put Bulliet on your to-try list. Half the price of Blanton's and easy to drink.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

From my understanding, if it's made in Kentucky and is at least 51% corn, it can be called bourbon. Anything else is just whiskey.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Finished off a bottle of the MM 46 last week. I almost always drink my bourbon neat, but I had to put some water in the 46 to make it drinkable. It's not that high of a proof, just seemed harsh to...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

My rule of thumb is that I won't use a liqour to mix with that I wouldn't drink straight (I rarely drink a mixed drink though). That being said, I would probably use Bulleit or Jim Beam to mix...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

In my experience, money rarely equates to quality/taste in bourbon. :2

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

If you are used to bourbon, don't expect the same with GJ. It's not a bourbon, but a Tennessee whisky. Charcoal filtered like regular JD, but a bit smoother. I got a bottle during the holidays. I...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Arrgghh. Never use cold water/ice with fine bourbon. The molecules in colder water effect the bourbon in a negative way as compared to using room temp water. I read this on a bourbon bb, so I...

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

There is a starter-tab that sticks out a little from just below the cap. Just pull it and then you can open it right up :r

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

I got to try some Pappy 23 year old. It had a great flavor on the front end but was hot going down. Found that to be strange for a bourbon so old. Sure glad I didn't pay for it.
