Re: Scott W's Christmas brew reviews-Merry Mischief by Sam Adams

Funny story: this beer is actually a spinoff of 100-rated (as per BA) and SAVOR award-winning Hardywood Park Craft Brewery's (Richmond, VA) Gingerbread Stout - even the label of Sam Adams' offering...

Re: Best ever Banana bread.

I added 1/4 cup white chocolate chips to my second loaf. Turns out the baking time is sufficiently long to melt them completely. However, all is not lost, as they added another dimension of moisture...

Re: Best ever Banana bread.

Confirmed for delicious.

Made this tonight; I stuck with the 2 bananas and the walnuts but added a 1/2 cup of blueberries. So simple. So delicious. What a great share.

I bet blueberries or strawberries would be good, too.

Re: The Perfect temperature to Smoke

I like 80ish with a slight breeze and a comfortable humidity level.

Wink Re: Too many Rh devices

I learned quick that such statements shouldn't be taken at face value. I have a Xikar.digital hygro that claimed to not need calibration and to be +/-2% out of the box, but ended up being -6% when I...

Re: How tolerant are you? And can you live with out it?

This is the worst. I was outside smoking one evening that it was cool (65ish) and humid (94%), and the burn issues were atrocious. I took a good hour to labor through the first half, then couldn't...

Plus those long smoke breaks that are too good to interrupt. :r

Sounds like you got yourself a keeper.

I definitely need to get into this hobby.

Also, don't feel too bad, Cole, there's some solid info in this thread. :tu

Re: World No Tobacco Day

Got a pretty busy day, but I'll most definitely be trying to get one in. I'd love to see people's reactions if nobody bought tobacco today. It seems like everyone against the industry just doesn't...

Re: I'm having a flavor issue when I smoke. Is it me ?

I'm still quite a noob, but in my experience, over-humidification can have an adverse effect on taste.

Re: What beer or liquor are you drinking right now?

I'm drinking Hardywood Park (local Richmond brewery, limited distribution in VA) Bourbon Cru, a bourbon barrel aged quad.

Re: need guide to pairing with beer

I see. I've never had an English barley wine. I know Swamphead/CCB did a collaboration barley wine where one did an English (called Churchill) and the other did an American (called.Roosevelt). Never...

Re: Hygrometer calibration/ Boveda pack question

So I'm 36 hours in, and my hyg is reading a steady 68-69; it has yet to even touch 70 :bh

Re: need guide to pairing with beer

Don't get me wrong, I love I/IPAs, too, I just need some sort of malt backbone :D

Presumably aged barley wines? Fresh, they can be pretty hoppy like IPAs and hot like imp stouts, though the...

Re: need guide to pairing with beer

If you've got a spicy, full-bodied smoke, you'll probably want to go with an IPA or one of the blonde Belgian abbey-style ales.
With a sweeter smoke, you'll probably be better off with a sweet...

Re: Threw away my fisrt cigar

I chucked a Bolivar Cofradia 554 last night for a similar reason. Though I got a decent enough 45 minutes out of the half I had the patience to smoke. I guess I won't be smoking outside when the rh...

Hygrometer calibration/ Boveda pack question

Let me start by stating I have a Xikar round, adjustable calibration hygro.

I ran the salt test on it, letting it set 36 hours, and I never got it to read any more than 62%. So then I went to my...

Re: This could have been serious

That's pretty nuts (pun not intended :r). I've had ash drop in my lap a few times, but never the burning portion. Guess I'll have to start paying more attention when a piece falls.
