Re: What was your last Scotch purchase?

I think of it as the poor man's Lagavulin. Not as expressive, but a nice peaty dram for the budget minded.

Powers (yeah, I know... but I gotta balance the books somehow.)

Re: Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97

The robustos are a nice value smoke -- not extraordinary, but a step above your average yard gar, I think. The aroma is more impressive than the flavor. I reviewed it on my cigar blog here....

Re: What am I in for?

Panama Boquete is a nice bean -- light but tasty. I haven't tried the CR Tarrazu Miel, but I've been roasting the CR Puente Miel -- fantastic stuff.

It sounds like you're on the right path,...

Re: Looking for a Coffee Roaster

I used an IRoast-2 for almost two years with no mechanical problems, aside from the time I dropped the top that holds the chaff collector and cracked it. (Replacement cost 15 bucks.) My routine was...

Re: Anyone ever smoked a Zelo De Cuba?

I've bitten on deals like this in the past and they're either complete garbage or decent yard gars. If they burn well and don't taste like compost you did okay. Can't expect much more than that for...

Re: how low would u go for a cup

Cheap-but-honest hotel room/convenience store Robusta Blend is okay if there's no decent alternative. Starbucks is not a decent alternative.

Alternatives to Top25Cigar.com?

For the past couple of years I've been keeping track of my likes and dislikes on T25C, but since "the change" I'm having problems with it -- for one, when you go to your list of reviews they're no...

Re: What are you reading?

The Ax by Donald Westlake. What happens when you take downsizing a little too literally.

Re: What cigar did you smoke today?

Tempus corona. Not bad, but not living up to the hype either.

Roaster review: Behmor 1600

After a couple years with the IR2 -- a nice little air roaster -- I've finally graduated to the Behmor 1600. I've been using the Behmor for about a month now and thought I'd share my thoughts on it. ...

Re: What are you reading?

I just finished The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon. One of the strangest books I've come across and I'm not sure what to think of it. It got under my skin, but not necessarily in a good way.

Re: What cigar did you smoke today?

Fonseca KDT Cadetes. One dimensional, but still nice for a short smoke in the cold.

Re: I Will/Won't Drink Any Coffee, Anytime

My consumption has decreased significantly over the past decade -- from five or six cups a day to around two or three -- but I still try to have a cup of home roast, warm or cold, within arms reach...

Re: Circuit Bending...this stuff is amazing!!

Very cool! I could never do anything like this... but my dog can. Sort of. His favorite toy is a parrot that says "Polly want a cracker" when squeezed and he left it outside one night when it rained....

Re: books in mp3 format for ipod

Many public libraries now offer audiobooks online via Recorded Books, Overdrive, Netlibrary, etc... Very easy and very free if your local PL is doing this.

Re: OJ Simpson Sentencing

Looks like this works out to a 7.5 to 20 year beef -- the max is based on him serving out his entire sentence in prison and getting the mandatory good time credits. (If he has disciplinary problems...

Re: OJ Simpson Sentencing

Assuming that OJ behaves himself he'll be getting 20 days credit for "good time" for every month that he serves. If he doesn't make parole when he's eligible and finishes his sentence in prison,...

Re: Emergency Veterinarian's - Damn!?!

That sounds about right... I had to bring my terrier mix in last summer after a dog fight one night. They wanted a $300.00 deposit just to examine him. I had no choice, so I paid it. Then they wanted...

Re: I'd like to try something really different.

Aricha Lot 27 from Unclebeanz.com is really different. And extremely good. (A bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the experience.) Yum.
