Just as long as it's one of those two, and some of the others ones only let water out, or only suck water back in. These do both.

It may be too late to return it, but for that size humidor you can easily get a bag of beads, and have to do almost nothing to them except recharge them with water every 6ish months.

Cigars usually won't have an ember, that black that turns to ash is normal. Sometimes when you ash falls of and you are taking a puff they will glow a bit.
