It sounds like you packed just a tad too loose. However it is always better to pack your pipe on the loose side because all you have to do is tamp it down a bit to tighten it up to where you like...

Different pipe tobacco do have different strengths and such. The most general classification is aromatic and non aromatic. This is one of the best sites I've found for explaining tobacco....

If using a pipe cleaner with stem out:
It could be that the cleaners are a little too fluffy or that the pipes needs to be "opened up" a little. I usually use a 5/32 drill bit to accomplish this...

Just remember to stir the tobacco up every few hours to facilitate better results. If part of the tobacco seems much more moist than others, you can put it back in the tin and in a couple days it...

I have done that with nearly all my pipes but this one seemed to draw pretty good from the start. Next time i go home I may try it anyway. That 5/32 drill bit has sure done alot of good for me...
