The purpose of having cigar boxes is to buffer the humidity levels in the cooler. They absorb the moisture from the humidifying device, so that you dont lose all of your humidity each time...

Just curious, are you able to keep smokes on the top tray. It seems like the depth between the tray and the lid is shallow, but it could be the picture playing tricks on me.
