Re: What's in your smoker?

Since the Government insisted I take the day off Friday (and every other Friday through Sep, thanks Congress...) I fired up my smoker for the first time in a year to make some ribs. The first, and...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

You're welcome! I've got more ammo than time to shoot, happy to share the links :)

I found this link (http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/) useful for building the lower.

Some...

Re: Gardeners in the Asylum

Thanks for the tips on zucchini. I don't have black spots so it doesn't look like blossom end rot for me, but the pollination problem pics look about right. I'll have to try hand pollinating.

Re: Gardeners in the Asylum

Shame y'all are having a tough year. Mine's been going great so far (SE PA). The first tomatoes should be ready in the next few days, with plenty more nice looking fruit not far behind. Picked my...

Re: Shun, MAC or something else?

Packages always seem to come with too many extra knives you'll probably never use (i.e. 'tomato knife'). I use a 7" santoku, a 6" 'utility' knife', and on occasion a paring knife and chef's knife. I...

Alarm system recommendations?

I'm interested in getting a relatively simple, monitored alarm. Doors, windows, fire, the usual. No need for cameras or anything too fancy (though I like the option of adding future home...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

You mean black ash/dirt inside the primer pocket? If you got a reloading kit, it probably came with a primer pocket cleaner. You can use that to make it a bit better. You're really just making...

Re: Favorite charcoal?

I've grilled twice with the RO all natural hardwood briquettes. So far, so good. Easy to light, not too much ash, seem to burn pretty hot - my steaks cooked quicker than I expected. The briquettes...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I've built three AR lowers on my kitchen island, you don't need a bench. If I remember right, the only tools necessary are a few punches, a hammer, an AR-15 armorer's wrench, a screwdriver or hex...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I'm a fan of a Bill Springfield's trigger work: http://www.triggerwork.net/arparts.html

Depending on pull weight preference (2.5, 3, or 4 lbs) it'll run you $89-109 for the trigger group parts. ...

Get 'em while you can, those will be illegal in MD in 6 months.

Re: Gardeners in the Asylum

I'm on the southern border of PA, so that helps. Glad to hear they work, they'll be delivered on Friday :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I wouldn't jump straight to the Dillon. Here's why:

1) Starting with a turret or single stage will force you to slow down, take your time, and focus on what you're doing.

2) Presses hold...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I've reloaded for about a year, only pistol cartridges so far, and only using a Lee turret press.

I enjoy it. It takes time though, and right now finding components is almost as hard as finding...

Re: Gardeners in the Asylum

My tomato plants are starting to get too big, I'm afraid they'll be root bound before the nights are warm here, but don't have room to pot up. They're in 3" pots now, 6-8" tall and growing fast.

Re: Favorite charcoal?

Thanks guys. Ended up getting Royal Oak Chef Select (all natural briquettes) for $0.50/lb. Price was the same as Home Depot is selling Kingsford at the moment. I love the ease of use you get with...

Favorite charcoal?

I tried to light up the grill for the first time this spring last night and realized I'm out of charcoal.

Last year I used Stubbs lump charcoal briquettes almost exclusively, and before that it...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

http://www.slickguns.com Check it often, most deals posted sell out quickly. Mags are starting to get easy to find and prices seem to be back down to ~$15, give or take a few bucks. Basic BCGs are...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Lowers (stripped or complete) still seem to be quite high, but are available. Upper parts seem readily available and not overly inflated if you do a little shopping. BCGs are still the long-lead...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Got one of those for my wife last year, she loves it.

Watch that trigger though if you bring any new shooters to the range with you. I let an inexperienced friend shoot it a few months ago and...

I carry a CRKT Delegate (http://www.crkt.com/Delegate-EDC-Black-Blade-Cocobolo-Scales-Razor-Sharp-Edge-OutBurst-Fire-Safe-Knife) regularly, always been a fan of that company:

Re: beer hauls

Yep, at least compared to Buffalo Bill's. Less vanilla/whipped cream flavor than Shipyard and Pumking. More spice than DFH, among others.

Time to move on to stouts though, had my fill of pumpkin...

I like my pumpkin beers to favor the pumpkin spice flavors, especially nutmeg and vanilla....
