Why Do Folks Cup & Un-cup The Bowl Opening
I've seen some folks do this while smoking. They cup their hand over the bowl and puff. They do this a few times. Not sure what this accomplishes?
Anyone know what I'm talking about? |

by limiting the airflow in, I find I can rekindle the ember without having to use a lighter.

Okay, that makes sense. Guess I've always been a just light it up type smoker. Pipes are very new to me.

You'll find as you smoke more, that control of the ember is important as going full on napalm can give you more heat than you need and may affect the taste of the tobacco. Ideally you want to be closer to on the edge of going out than a small blast furnace.

but dont worry about it if you puff like a choo choo sometimes. I sure do when I am upset or very tired. It still calms me and taste good to me. I threw away the book on pipe etiquette. Much too 'old British' for me. I dont even wear a satin smoking jacket! Oh the horrors!!
Light it and enjoy it any way you want or can. |
