Apple Bites!

Anyone on here have any suggestions on resetting an iPod Touch back to factory settings?

My wife disabled her iPod after she got her iPhone. Now we would like to give it to my daughter and it tells me "iPod is disabled, try again in 23,075,566 minutes. I'm not that young. I have looked at Apple support (what there is of it) and it of course tells me that we are out of the support/warranty window (duh). Looked at a couple of forums and didn't get anywhere.

Any constructive (I've considered the 12 ga. already) ideas?

Thanks in advance!!!

Did you try resetting the date/time? That should allow you not to wait the 23,075,566 minutes. :2

That would work if I could get into the settings. Unfortunately I will have to wait 23, 075,560 minutes to get into the settings to change it ;)

Hold down the home button and power button at the same time. What happens when you plug it in to your comp, does it show up in iTunes
?

What Adam said. Hold down the home button and power button at the same time, continue to hold until you get the Apple.

You can try recovery mode as well http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Btw I don't know if apple bites because some put in the wrong password a shitload of times. Haha well that's when you get that message is when the wrong code is entered too many times, also rebooting won't help in that case, you'll have to try recovery mode.

I know I hate when security features actually protect my devices, pain in the ass is what that is, I'll tell ya what.

I've tried to get it into recovery mode. I get the usb symbol pointing to the iTunes symbol. Doesn't show up in iTunes and after a while tells me that I have to wait 22 million minutes to try again. Argh!

That's the problem, we haven't entered the p/w a crapload of times. It's been sitting for the last year or so since Holly got the iPhone. Last thing we did was de-autherize it from the account. I figured that we could restor it to factory/erase all the current stuff and give it to our daughter...oops. Nothing is ever THAT simple.

Love the security features but recently had an ipod touch gen 2 and got a similar message took it to the apple store near us and was told that my device was out of date and needed to be replaced. They could not unlock it reset it or update the system so it would operate correctly. The techs exact words were we now have a cool looking paperweight. That was just this past Nov.
