She's a teacher

Our youngest daughter graduated for Southeaster Louisiana University yesterday with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Her goal is to teach third grade. She is fully aware of the pitfalls of being a teacher, but is ready to pursue what she has wanted to do since she was 16 years old.

Our oldest son (31) has gone back to college and is also planning on becoming a teacher. He eventually wants to be an high school football coach.

and its not here in NC. My wife took about a 50% pay cut when she moved from NJ to NC. Of course, it was worth it to be out of Jersey.:D

Congrats to you and your daughter - its an under-appreciated job that is critical to our children.:tu

My wife would loose $20,000 a year if we moved to the DC area... :ss

Congrats to you and your family. As an educator of 20 or so years I can tell you it has its rewards.

Congrats! Teaching has it's goods and bads. The pay is not one of the goods. The good news is you only have to work 190 days a year.

They start you off at $30,000 a year here in NC now.:(
It pays to get a masters degree (10% pay raise) and National Board Certification (12%? raise)

I didn't believe it until my daughter brought some paperwork home from the local school district. Starting salaries in the public schools in our immediate area is averaging $40,000 per year. Our local school district is one of the top public school districts in Louisiana. The pay is higher here then it is in New Orleans only 30 miles away.
