Low Blood Sugar

I'm new to cigar smoking so forgive me if this sounds stupid. I have low blood sugar...most of the time I never experience any symptoms..I feel just fine. A couple of times now I have smoked late at night-once on an empty stomach another time after a light meal and smoked a heavy duty cigar like a double maduro or Cohiba 550 EV and it sent me into a tail spin as far as my blood sugar goes. I get light headed, headache, weak, shaky...and it lasts for hours and I have a crappy nights sleep. I get up next morning and I'm still a little "off". I realize now that I should smoke after a good meal is under my belt. Does anyone else have any problems like this? I'd hate to quit after finding something this great but I need to try to try to keep my blood sugar under control. I googled the subject and it told me that nicotine spikes your blood sugar, as does caffeine...I just need a cigar sage to set me straight as to what steps I can take to keep my blood sugar from going nuts...so that I can survive my new hobby.

Actually, cigars lower you blood sugar levels as you can attest to. The best advice I can give you is to smoke on a full stomach and/or drink a sugary drink (tea, soda, juice, etc) while smoking. Sugar is the cure for too much nicotine. It can be tricky for diabetics.

start with a more milder cigar and work up your tolerance.

I would suggest eating a fuller meal before smoking. And can you eat some candy or a packet of sugar to keep your levels up? I usually will drink sweet tea when I smoke a cigar or a Coke.

This happens to a BOTL. What he does is that he drinks a soda or a small amount of regular soda.
Another good idea is that he keeps sugar cubes around.
****IMPORTANT****
You should also monitor your blood sugar to make sure. Please becareful with this.

I have hypoglycemia and on rare occasions, I've had a spell after smoking a cigar. Something you can try is orange juice, 8 to 10 ounces. It's amazing how it cleans your palate before a smoke and it'll help adjust your blood sugar. BTW, it's gets worse as you get older.

I don't have low blood sugars and I've still had some cigars produce the same problem if you are smoking on an empty stomach.

As others have said, drinking a coke (or anything with sugar really) while you are smoking helps counter act the nic.

As others have stated starting mild and building up gradually might help. Also, unless its a small cigar, I always eat a little something before smoking. The citric acid in a coke, pepsi, or other soda will not only help "refresh" your palate, but will help with the Nic (my favorite is San Pellegrino Limonata if available)

On a few occasions that Ive smoked to much and the Nic has made me feel a bit queezy, a packet of sugar sprinkled on the tongue really helps. Thanks to my Mugen910 for that tip!
