I got an amazon gift card for my birthday. So, I bought a black crackle Zippo and a Thunderbird soft flame insert. Both have shipped. Just need to get the butane. I'm giddy as a kid on Christmas Eve.:noon

Just ran out to the mail, and the lighter was there. Glad I picked up some Zippo fuel this morning. Just waitng on the insert.

Beautiful lighter. I thought about the torch, but I'll have to get another Zippo if I go that route. And if I take pipes up again....

Hey guys, I don't have much luck with torch lighters at all and am really interested in getting this lighter. Any recommendations on sources and prices? Thanks. Steve

Steve, I got mine at amazon.com, with free shipping on the lighter. Lighter was $12. Here's the lighter. The insert hasn't cleared San Antonio yet, or the USPS tracker is slow.

Insert came in the mail yesterday. Put it in the lighter, opened it to try it out, and struck the flint wheel. A little blue flame sputtered to life, then went out.

Guess I got a dud. Sending it back Tuesday (first day I'm off and can make it into town).

did u fill it up with butane? adjust the flame on the bottom of the insert. might be set too low.

Filled it (with Zippo butane, can't afford the bazillion times refined stuff) and set the light to max. I'm going to purge it and try again before I send it back.

i know sometimes if my torch is too high it will not light, so putting it on MAX, may not be the best bet. adjust it a couple of times.

Haven't gotten around to refilling it. Been crazy at home. Once I get it going, I'll let you know.

Where do you get the soft flame inserts at?

I like more Ronsons but I would like to maybe give one of these soft flames a go.....

Are thse soft flame inserts that go in the Zippos the same as the Xikar EX lighter?

Nope. Vector Thunderbird inserts. Google that. They're everywhere. They fit Zippos perfectly.
