Patel Bros toro

This Patel Bros blend is a cooperation between Rocky Patel and his brother Nish, a blend they worked on for years and it consists of aged Nicaraguan binder and filler with a broadleaf wrapper from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I got this cigar from a Rocky Patel representative after he read one of my reviews where I stated that I never had a Rocky Patel that I liked. He was on a mission to find me a Rocky Patel that would fit my palate and dropped a nice sampler on my desk. The first cigar from his sampler, the Rocky Patel Edge maduro double corona hit the bulls eye, I loved that cigar, and now I finally got to smoke the second cigar from his sampler, the 6½x52 Patel Bros toro from 2009.

The cigar looks awesome, the broadleaf wrapper is deep dark, almost black, smooth and oily with hardly any veins. The band is stylish. The cigar has a barnyard smell with some horse scent too. The construction feels good, just as the predraw which is mild peppery.

I taste a lot of pepper with some wood and chocolate. The strength of the pepper fades almost immediately until I taste a mild pepper, wood and chocolate. The pepper keeps fading and the chocolate grows stronger. After an inch I taste wood as main flavor with chocolate and herbs on the background. The chocolate keeps growing in strength and after a third the chocolate becomes the main flavor with some wood on the background.

The wood changes into leather but the strong chocolate flavor keeps on being dominant, strong, full but smooth and mild sweet. I taste marzipan too, which is always a huge plus for a marzipan junkie like me. Near the end the chocolate and marzipan leave and all I taste is wood.

This cigar lasted me for two hours and five pleasant minutes. The draw is great, just like the burn. The smoke is plenty and thick. The ash is light colored with dark spots and firm. I got a nice flame when purging. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Without a doubt.

Smoke & ash: 8 / 10

I picked one of these up a couple months back; just on the fact the wrapper is grown about 30mi away from where I live....I'll have to give it a shot.

It's my understanding that this is the Winter Blend repackaged and put in full production. I have to agree that this is indeed one of the better Patels.

Just got word yesterday that this line has been discontinued. For those of you that like 'em, get 'em while you can.

And if you do like them, Tampa Humidor has them on closeout prices. Or had, anyway.

Nevermind. Brent beat me to it.
