Question About Beads

Looks like I've been given the green light to get an end table humidor and I've found one I like. Now I just need some help figuring out what size bag of beads I need to keep the smokes safe. I've always used crystal gel in my 300ct.

Here are the dimensions: 20" W x 24" D x 30" H

Here's a pic:

Thanks for the help!

Re: Question About Beads

If my calculations are correct you need 2 pounds of beads.

Re: Question About Beads

The amount of beads depends upon the airflow of the cabinet. If you have airflow through-out (e.g., slotted drawers, vented shelves) then you use dimenstions of the entire cabinet to determine how much beads you need.

If the drawers and shelves are not slotted/vented, then you need to calculate the bead requirements for each shelf and drawer. I have a calculator on my website and Dave has one on the Heartfet site.

I did the calculations and I'm right in the middle of needing 1.5 pounds and 2 pounds. Would you go up or down? And I'm thinking of going w/ 65%, thoughts? I'm in Georgia, with hot and humid summers...

You can never have too much beads :)

Truly, the more you have the better your humidor will be at accomodating changes in RH.

Make it easy, 1lb for each section. Smaller sections, don't fully hydrate the beads, let them absorb excess, the larger lower section, full soak. And get some oust fans for airflow

I agree! I should actually get some more. They seem pricey when you compare them to the little gel packs or sticks, but you gotta figure what it would cost to replace your stash if they dry out.

Get extra...Well worth the cost! :tu

So looking at the pics of the humi, you'd put a 1lb bag in the bottom, and another in the top drawer?

Re: Question About Beads

People can laugh at this BUT, I use cleaned out baby food containers (the plastic tubs) to place beads everywhere in my humi. They hide behind boxes and fit into tight spaces. I understand that the more distributed they are, the more distributed your humidity will be.

I would put 1/2 lb in each of the 2 drawers.

Probably a better idea, buy 4 1/2 lb bags and toss them in various corners...
