Night Vision
Hey guys need some help here. Just started working the night shift and will be spending significant amounts of time laid up in the middle of no where looking for people crossing the Rio Grande. I need a good set of night vision goggles and was hoping some of you guys might offer some recommendations. I would like ones that light up green and not gray. Here are three I am leaning towards.

Re: Night Vision
You don’t need night vision goggles, you need a night scope on a sniper rifle. Good luck.

Re: Night Vision
What's your budget?
Generation 1 units will not help you much. |
Re: Night Vision
Gen II or Gen III are really the only way to go if you don't want eye fatigue.

Re: Night Vision
CBP doesn't provide you with the necessary equipment?

If Budget isn't an issue I say go to www.flir.com I can tell you from personal experience in the field, they are the ****!

Re: Night Vision
I'll second the FLIR units. Shorter battery life and a bit on the heavy side, but they beat the hell out of night vision.

Re: Night Vision
Oh, and I forgot to mention..........hand helds are expensive, really expensive. But very nice!:)

Re: Night Vision
Someone got my 11 year old son some of those kiddie night vision goggles, and they are pretty cool!
Hah even I have fun with these! |
Re: Night Vision
We have some Russian made NV goggles at work. They are gen I but they work great. Just don't let a car headlight or other bright light come at ya or you'll be blind. We also have a hand held flir unit. I haven't used it much since I don't want to be the one to break the $20K toy but what I have noticed is I can follow vehicle tracks and see where a vehicle was. Humans turn up yellow, red and white which is great. Again, I agree with the rest as the battery doesn't last too long.

Re: Night Vision
I just have two little pieces of info to add.
A.) Don't put it off too long to buy them because I heard that D.H.S. may put the kibosh on sales of NV equipment to citizens. B.) When you do get them, Take a little time looking into the nighttime sky with them. Supposedly you can see all sorts of "stuff" in outer space flying around.:tf I'l expand on what I mean later if you want me to. |
