Old Padilla vs. New Padilla vs. Cubao
 

Alrighty,
So I've never had a Padilla Miami. I won a 5'er of churchills off of CBID. Now, I understand that the old (black and red label) Miamis were rolled by DPG and the newer ones aren't. How are the newer ones? Just as good? Weaker? Stronger?

Also, I'm in a position to get a box of old (black and red) Churchills for about the same price as a box of Cubao Churchills. Which one to get?

IMO, the older Padilla Miami's were spice bombs. I mean green and black pepper was about the only thing I could taste. I have smoked a great deal of DPG's cigars and I found the Padilla Miami's to be the most harsh in regards of spice. Some people love that, some don't. But that's my take on it. The newer Padilla Miami's have lost some of that spice and unfortunately some of the strength as well.

The Cubao's are really good and have a creamy/chocolatey taste that the Padilla Miami's did not.

I like the new Miami better than the DPG blend. I think the flavors are more balanced and is generally a more satisfying smoke now. I'm also not a Pepin whore so take my opinion with a grain of salt (I'm inclined to believe that if you slap something about him on a cigar most people will immediately declare their love blindly, after all, he's the current craze). I do like some of his line, but I haven't fallen head over heels for his blends like many.

Hmmm...I may have to track some down. I LOVE spicy cigars. I can't get enough Habana Leons, Litto Gomez, 601, etc.

I just smoked one of the older ones on New Years Eve.

They mellow a bit with age but still very strong though.

The new ones are a tad milder but both are great cigars in my opinion.

I only have one of the older ones left now :(

I have never had the "old" Miami, but the new one is pretty good. However, I MUCH prefer the Padilla 1932 ... simply one of the best cigars made, invho. I just got a nod to CA's Top 25 list too, which is cool as a fan of that label. I also prefer the Cubao, which is very underrated. A Cubao with a year or more of age is very complex and "surprising" at times, while keeping it's peppery goodness.
