Any Non-Traditional foods this Thanksgiving?
So what do you guys make for Thanksgiving? The usual fare? Anything unusual? My wife is Italian and all the women in her family gets together and makes all homemade sauce, meatballs, bracholi, ravioli...they bring that out first and then bring a turkey, stuffing, potatos...all that stuff. After you feel like you are gonna explode they bring out about 6 homemade pies! I love it all for sure! Before we start eating they have finger foods...one of the most unusual is raw squid with an italian dressing.

I'm going to ****ing McDonalds!
Very, very inside joke. I'm a sr. sysadmin and turkeyday is one of the best days to take "big" servers and arrays offline for upgrades and maintenance since no one is ever around. This "Tradition" started many years back when I was single, had no family in there area and worked for a company where McDonalds was across the street and half a block down. Oh, yeah, I hate fast food, and usually avoid it, and McDonalds typifies everything I hate about fast food. It's my once a year trip to McShytBurger. |

Probably going to make some of my delicious spaghettini pesto. What's the point of a big turkey dinner for two people?

Last year we hit the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet at the beach. Sounds like a plan for Thanksgiving dinner again this year.

Re: Any Non-Traditional foods this Thanksgiving?
My most non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner was nine years ago in Seattle at Andaluca in the Mayflower Park Hotel - venison with juniper berry glaze. It was absolutely spectacular.
This year is mostly traditional with some random elements thrown in. My wife ordered two dozen tamales from the cleaning lady at her workplace. I've been craving something with spicy green chili, so those will really hit the spot. |
Re: Any Non-Traditional foods this Thanksgiving?
We throw in a little traditional Jewish cooking. Challah and Matzo Ball soup usually. We still cook a Turkey, have stuffing, vegetables, yams, mashed potatoes, etc.

Traditional sides, but my main course is going to be a smoked turkey and a pork tenderloin covered in a spicy mole sauce. And if I screw up the sauce, at least there should still be enough turkey for everyone :)
