Sweater boxidor
Alright, I'm not really looking for the go ahead, or a smack on the wrist as I've already done it, but has anyone else made a sweater boxidor? I realize that it should not work with a less than optimal seal and all that, but I've had one up for a couple weeks with a few cigars and several boxes. It has 1 pound of beads and the RH has stayed within 2% all this time even with repeated opening and closing.
I'm not suggesting abandoning coolidors, but I'm curious if anyone else has tried it with good results? |

Re: Sweater boxidor
I've got two smaller boxes like that I've used for travel or herfs. They work just fine, at least short-term. I "improved" the seal by taking scraps of yoga mat and fixing strips into the lid's inner lip with double-sided tape.
FYI, I got the mat scraps from a local studio that cuts their own, and often has ends or pieces left. Just so you know it's not my own - you won't catch me greeting the sun in a downward dog. |

Re: Sweater boxidor
Sorry, I don't have a working camera atm :(, but yes, it's a large, plastic, 2.5x2x2 foot box that you can buy at any Wal-Mart/home store, etc. They are usually sold a sweater boxes. The type that's meant to store old clothes in closets. I have a weight that I keep on top to close any natural warpage gaps in the plastic.
And yes, it looks much like the one pictured above, only larger. :ss |
Re: Sweater boxidor
For temporary storage a plastic box will work. But unless you are just using one out of the garage, I dont see the reason. The smaller Sterlite boxes also are handy herf boxes. But as far as saving money for longer term storage I dont see these solutions being more economical than an $18 48qt cooler. :2
