Need help finding something

I need your help to find a company that will scan about 100 issues of a B&W magazine(there were a very few color issues) and also develop a searchable index for those issues and put all this info on a DVD.

Anyone know who might do this or even what to google?

You might have trouble with that due to copyright issues. Have you contacted the magazine company if it's still around?

It is our Clan magazine, so no problemo with copyright, happily.

Try looking for a company that makes PDF's of printed material.

That'd solve the searching thing and would be easy to catalog on a DVD.

A scanned PDF is not easily search-able. You must also run an OCR program so the search engine can recognize the text. Adobe Pro has OCR built in but it is not particularly robust. :2

I have a number of crudely scanned IEEE documents that are word searchable.

Maybe its dependent on the font?

Hugh, I used to have a part time job that scanned manuals into worrd, edited for clarity, alignment, picture adjusting, etc. with the final product in PDF format that was searchable and linked. That project has been shut down for some time. Your looking at something that is pretty time consuming - even with modern day equipment. You really need to scan into word, edit, then ouput the the final copy as a PDF if you want to ensure it can't be altered. Depending on the quality of the end result you want, the original needs to be "destroyed" (taken apart) to get the best image possible (also saves on the editing end). Someone trying to hold it in a scanner adds time and does not produce the best image possible.

I'll look around and see if I can find that company. Not sure how much your wanting to invest into this project.
