A few Elk pics from this weekend.

These are from up in Elk County, PA. It's just up the road from here.
I took my girlfriend and all the kids up to see them on Saturday.
We saw tons, and we had a really nice trip.
I'll try to post a few real quick...

A couple winters ago I went with some friends to one of their parent's cabin in Elks County we drove around for an entire afternoon looking at the elk. None of us are strangers to the woods but we were all blown away at the size of those deer.

And here's my baby girl, Rebekah. She liked the elk.
She could not fathom that there are no strawberry banana smoothies in the woods, and she was a bit put out that there was no cellphone service, but she had fun anyways. :)

2nd biggest herd in the US. The third biggest is in Sproul State Forest, also in PA. The elk here are much bigger than Western Elk because they are all corn-fed farmhogs. They don't have to eat sagebrush and twigs.
I did a survey on Winslow Hill a few years ago and got to live with the elk for a few months.
To see them in the deep woods in their real habitat, and to see just how huge and powerful they are crashing through the trees, is really something to behold.
They plow out tunnels in the pines that you can easily drive an SUV through and never touch a branch.
I made good use of the tunnels while we were setting line. It saved a lot of machete swinging. :)

Awesome! Me and the family were in the Smokey Mountain National Park this weekend, saw plenty of deer and wild turkeys.

(No phone service there either!)

I spend the longest night of my life is Sproul State forest backpacking on the Chuck Keiper Trail, We went out 2 nights after Xmas and were going to hike for 3 days after the first night when it was 7 degrees inside my tent we decided that we were going to get out of the woods and back to the trail head come hell or high water. I didn't see any elk, probably because were were all b!tching very loudly about our shoes being frozen solid till halfway through the second day.

She's 13, Gary. Just turned 13 in September. She's got an off the map IQ, and she's just about done growing. Shilala's are early bloomers. I could drink in any bar in DuBois when I was 15. :D
Fortunately for me, she's a lot smarter than her Dad. :tu
