Anyone have a Chemex?
Looking to test drive one for a week before I buy. You will be handsomely rewarded for helping me out.
Anyone? |
Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
I have used one a few times and elected not to buy because I thought press coffee was at least as good; I know a few folks who swear by them. I did pop $8.95 and got a #6 conefilter plastic manual pourover that rests neatly on thermos bottle while dripping.
For ease I prefer the french press; for cleanup I prefer the pourover filter; for quality I'd call the press and a Chemex (or pourover) about a dead heat. You know you have to stand there and dribble water and stir for a few minutes, right? You can use my pourover filter if you want. Six of one half dozen of the other.... but it has zero glamor factor compared to a nice Chemex. |
Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
Now how did I know Dan would have used a Chemex, :r

Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
I have a similar contraption from Bodum but only used it once.
If I could figure out how to pack it up and not break it, I would send it to you. The filter without the glass could be used for a pourover, |

Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
I've got a Chemex that I've used a few times, and I think it made the best tasting french roast that I've ever had. But keep in mind that the idea behind the Chemex, is the filter paper...not the vessel. Keeping that in mind, I would think you could use the filters with a Melita one cup (I could be wrong).
I'm a traditionalist...so I bought everything at once. Hand blown 6 cup Chemex, cleaning brush and two boxes of filters. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but I wouldn't part with it either. |
Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
Looks like I'm going with an aeropress instead. And maybe a secondary filter for my frenchie.

Alan Alder who invented of this product made some metal filters to test but has an issue with selling them based on the health concern of non paper filtered coffee so it doesn't look like he will be selling them. A suggestion I am going to try is to cut one of my old gold filters to fit the bottom. |

Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
Well, for low mess and power brew the AeroPress is a great call.

As long as you're not talking about Aldo Novo, it's all good. That "life is just a fantasy song" reminds me of my first breakup.

Re: Anyone have a Chemex?
Sorry Rob, I know you were trying to provide some Chemex factual info and I went and trampled all over your reply, but you were kinda rough on me when my chrome E61 machine was in transit.:r
