My iPhone not being recognized by iTunes

Everything was working ok, but now it won't even show up in iTunes and it won't show up when I connect via USB as anything. I've done some google searching, but I'm not a tekkie enough to know if I may do something that may cause more harm than good by doing a reset on it. Any suggestions???

Have you tried resetting it? If not, hold the home button and the sleep button together until it shuts off and you see the apple logo. Let it reboot and see if that helps.

Ok, so I just tried plugging in my wife's as well and nada...makes me wonder if it's the phone or something messed up the iTunes.

I'm sure this is the first thing you tried, but have you restarted your computer?

Have you tried connecting another USB item to the computer to make sure the USB ports are working?
