From the Captain Obvious files ... :r :r :r

Providing very young children with swimming lessons appears to have a protective effect against drowning and does not increase children's risk of drowning, reported researchers at the National Institutes of Health.

So it is true, the government can spend our money better than we can. I could have done that experiment very cheaply. Take kid #1 (the one you like) and teach him/her to swim. Take kid #2 (the whiny annoying one) and don't teach him or her to swim. Throw both kids in a pool that is 12ft deep. Take notes on results! :)

:r Similar experience here. Similar to learning how to ride a bike. Set me on the seat. Feet barely reached the pedals. Gave me a running push and let me go.

So that's what all the worlds true geniuses have been working on all these years. Wow... I figured they were working on something moot and pointless like a cure for cancer or something.
