The Banjo Minnow
 

So I saw an adverstisement for the banjo minnow. My question is does anyone have this lure and does it actually work? Babe Winkleman endorsed this product so I am curious.

its great but it sucks at the same time. The lures work, they will get bite after bite. The problem is the hook setup. If you try to set the hook the fish is gone. The fish basically has to hook itself. I got the set last year. I've caught some but lost more. I'd say you catch about 25% of the fish that hit it.

But do you get more bite with this lure than others?

So far I have gotten bits on 80% of casts. They work but it's not easy. I have only used them in ponds. Have not been out on a lake or river w/ em yet.

Wow, you'd think they'd have that puppy perfected my now. I remember seeing ads on TV for the Banjo Minnow about 20 years ago! The front positioned hook means the minnow must be "inhaled or engulfed" entirely by the fish. (That's from the website.) The stop and go retrieve will help with that, but if you're after a species that goes for a tail hit from behind, I imagine you'd have to be awfully patient before even trying to set the hook.
