Re: 4GB of RAM
well i got the ram installed..but its not that much faster...does anyone know if i have to change any setting on my comp to make it faster?
|
Re: 4GB of RAM
Nope, the OS will detect the RAM. It is a PC though, so with 4 GB of RAM it's likely still barely running. ;)

Re: 4GB of RAM
Did you replace all the RAM or just some of it? Unfortunately memory clocks to the slowest card, so if you have 3 brand new 1GB cards that are really fast, they won't be able to run any faster than the slow 1 GB card you left in (as an example).

Re: 4GB of RAM
replaced it all...4 1 g. cards...dont get me wrong, its quick....but i thought it would be lightining :)

Re: 4GB of RAM
It's my understanding that unless you're running a 64 bit operating system, your pc will only be able to utilize 3gb of ram anyway. It will show 4 installed however.

Re: 4GB of RAM
To test it, get into some heavy duty photo editing program and create a 50 mb files to work with. This is where you'll see a difference. Other than memory hog programs, you'll just cruise along as you've always done and won't notice much difference

Re: 4GB of RAM
make sure that the computer did recongize the upgrade. go to my computer and right click go to properties > the general tab should say how much memory it sees. I have seen some not actually see the full memory upgrade until after you make them recongize it.

That always helps. Another thing that might be slowing down your page reads is your virus scanner. If you're running real time protection it's scanning the pages as it's serving them up in front of your face. Some antivirus programs do that poorly. You may want to switch to AVG or Eset. They both work well. :tu |
Re: 4GB of RAM
thanks for the help

Re: 4GB of RAM
One other thing...
You didn't mention what you were using initially. If you already had 2gb of ram, it's unlikely you'd notice any difference at all unless you're running memory intensive applications like CAD or Photoshop. It's arguable that you wouldn't see much of a difference from 1gb of ram if you're running a nice, clean OS. If you upgraded from 256mb or 512mb, you'd notice a blazing difference everywhere. :) |
Re: 4GB of RAM
1 gb originally... 2 X 512 then i took both them out, and got 4 1gb cards...it is quicker, especially, when my comp is doing a virus scan, im listin to itunes nd surfing the net
