Rio Olympics 2016

Fun start!

USA women's soccer roll. Women's gymnastics look good. Feel so bad for Annemiek van Vlueten's wreck, pleased to hear it wasn't worse. Mara Abbott worked so hard, tough not to see her on the podium.

The men's 4x100 free was awesome for the USA men tonight. Good God if Michael Phelps isn't a fish.

Funny how I'll watch this chit during these times.

Didn't see much of women's cycling, but did catch a good bit of the men's the day before. One hell of a finish.

Phelps is a gold fish. 19, and maybe counting.

The Williams sisters suck. :r

Woman's beach volleyball ... Gotta love a sport were they compete in bra and panties .

I would be 100% for women's surfing in the olympics :) .

If it isn't played with skates and a hockey stick ... It isn't a serious sport :) .

If it can't kill you, it isn't a sport. Mortorcycle racing is a serious sport. Hockey ... :noon

My wife had a revelation last night and "figured out" why I like to watch women's volleyball. I told her she could most likely apply that theory to just about all female sports.

I was so awesome to see the cheating Russian lose to Lily King :)

Re: Rio Olympics 2016

It's a damn good thing King won after the verbal attack she gave the night before. I was a bit nervous watching that race.

Just watched Phelps win his 21st gold, in a borrowed swim cap. :r

Did you see the panic on his face when his cap broke?!
Phelps is awesome!

Re: Rio Olympics 2016

^^^. That was funny, added bonus point with the other swimmer trying to help him out on the replacement cap(he had to take a little control, I'm good, moment).

Kerri Walsh-Jennings lost her second ever, Olympic set today. Still won the match, crazy that she's only lost two Olympic sets ever.

Kristin Armstrong winning the women's time trial again, good stuff!

Re: Rio Olympics 2016

Phelps has equaled the all time Olympic record set by Leonidas of Rhodes in 152 BC, one more win and he can be considered the greatest olympic athlete literally of all time. Of course there were no relay or team events in those days but the case can still be made.

On the flip side, While Phelps’s gold-medal haul includes titles in five different individual events, Leonidas was a champion in three. And he won all three races at four straight Olympic Games. And he did it in the nude and the races were all on the same day. The stadion is a race measuring about 200 yards and diaulos is one that’s twice as long. The hoplitodromos — also called the hoplite race — might be the most intriguing. Runners competing in the ancient race were required to wear a helmet, leg armor and carry a shield. With 50 pounds of added weight, it was a test of strength as much as speed or endurance.

Phelps could also have an edge with little chocolate donuts!

I was at those games, and Leonidas was juiced . . . on ambrosia and nectar.

Watching the international coverage the last couple of days has been fun and I have been able to watch events and teams and countries that we normally do not see in the US. Women's table tennis was fun with a few beers and how could you not route for Dhing Ning! Yep after a couple beers the announcers almost had me in tears a few times "Wow Dhing ... what shot!"

The USA men's beach VB game vs Italy was outstanding! Only watched the 3rd set, but wow, intense.

22nd gold for Phelps, and it wasn't even close.
