(Official?) Pocket Knife Discussion Thread

Who carries, and what do you carry. Is your favorite knife your daily carry knife?

I only have 40-50 knives, most sitting in knife rolls in the closet. However, I carry two knives as a daily practice. I carry a Boker, assisted open folder, on a clip in my back pocket for quick access and heavy cutting. I carry a Wenger Huntsman model Swiss Army Knife (SAK) as my utility knife. The Boker goes in my right-rear pocket, the Wegner in my front-left pocket.

While these are my daily carries, I have a Camillius three blade that is a little over 4 inches folded that probably rates as my favorite. Not a glamour knife, and is carbon steel instead of SS blades, but it is one tough knife. Probably 25-30 years old, bone handle, and the steel will take an edge like no other knife I know. Used to be a daily carry, but is a little on the heavy size and lacks the "extra" tools on my SAK.

For serious backpacking trips, I have a Blackhawk that has a large drop point blade (locking, almost 6 inches) and one efficient saw blade that will cut through a tree if needed. This is my second favorite knife.

For more serious work, I have a two knife set of Buck skinning knives I use for my deer cleaning needs. Both are drop point, nice balance and weight, with rubberized handles. I actually like the smaller 4 inch blade over the larger 7 to 8 inch blade.

There you have it.

What do you guys carry and why.

I have my little buddy after carrying all sizes over the years. It's now a Case XX Limited Edition Peanut, green/yellow stag. 2 7/8" closed, two blades. Good for about anything except killing large mammals. It's handy for anything I need it for and does a job on my leftovers for lunch at work. Small enough not to weigh down my pocket. She's 10 years and aging well, plus I don't go anywhere without her.

Mine is greenish/yellow, not lime green like the stock picture.

I went through Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw phases and now I'm on a Boker kick. I like their style and functionality and most of all their price so I don't have to worry about losing one. Lately I've been seeing if I can get by with the itty bitty Keycom like this one here:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...867/keycom.jpg

I also carry a Vic Scientist:

I carry different ones all the time. Usually the first I find. I think I will be ordering some more soon. If anyone has something specific they want, let me know! I am a knife dealer, and only sell to friends or use for fundraisers. You pay my cost plus a little for shipping to me then about $5 usps priority to you. My cost is typically just a few dollars over half of retail. There are however some brands who think they have the only knives out there and charge more than half, cant remember who right off hand. I do have to place a min. order of $100 most of the time 2-3 knives meet that requirement.

I carry a Gerber Paraframe II and a Craftsman multi-tool. I grew up in the hometown of Case. They are nice knives, but I just feel there are better out there for every day carry (they look nice though).

Re: (Official?) Pocket Knife Discussion Thread

I'm seldom without a pocket knife. The last few years I've relied primarily on a Spyderco MeerKat. I've got others I pick up on occasion, but the little Spyderco is my favorite. Sharpens well, is unobtrusive, and has a slick closing action. A flick of the wrist with the lock disengaged and it snaps shut. The AUS-6 steel doesn't hold the edge as long as I'd like, but sharpening it gives me something to do when I'm sitting in the courtyard smoking.

Leatherman "Juice" for daily carry, although I collect a variety of knives. Leatherman just seems to do everything in one knife.:tu

Used to carry a Spyderco with moderate regularity years ago. I've retired to just a Swiss Key. It does just about everything I need it to in a pinch. Don't have to worry about any sort of security issues either. It's innocuous.

And yes, it has a tiny blade, so it could be considered a pocket knife? :]

I'm confused on WI knife laws as far as being able to carry one. Have found some places that say 3'' or under is okay.....other sites that make it look like it reads that no carrying is allowed.

Depends on the state Usually 3"-4", Also Nevada does not consider it concealed if the pocket clip is visible. Best thing to do is call local cutlery shop or LE, even then I get mixed answers for somethings.

EDC to the office for me is either a Victorinox Recruit or a Victorinox Cadet. I have many others ie (BM)Griptillian, Buck 110, (BM)Pika, Case Canoe... but the good old vic's are the one's who get used the most. Mainly because I'm not afraid to misplace them and they don't scare the sheep at work.

They may not be flashy, but they are true workers. :ze
