New job incoming

well after 9 years at my current place, including surviving many lay offs, going from an office environment to working remotely from home and many other things ive probably forgotten, im changing. I was in a debate with myself a few weeks ago (see my working from home vs commuting thread http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=48402) and the company making me the offer, initially offered what i said i needed at the bare minimum to financially do it.

After alot of consideration, the driving time i would be loosing and also the fact id prob end up loosing money overall, i expressed this to the company and they upped the offer considerably to where I decided ok yea this is worth it.

Going in as a network support tech at a small IT firm that contracts out to around 200 companies in the Birmingham area. Should be a great learning experience. Im nervous but excitied at the same time.

Thanks for listening, just felt the need to type it up and share -(P

Congrats Man and good luck. I just found out today that my department will be "displacing" about 30 employees. So for the next 5 weeks I get to sit and wait.

Good luck. Ive been through so many lay offs, how I managed to stay im not real sure, but I must have done something right. My division is down to 5 people, which 9 years ago was about 200.

Thanks all. I can say, im gonna miss rolling out of bed at like 7:55 and beign in my office and working at 8. Also the dress code of gym shorts and t-shirt was pretty comfy and will be missed.

I'm a layoff survivor myself with my last job for years. In fact, I was the last employee they let go, but starting a new job is always strange, exciting and so on. Good luck my friend!:cool2:

Congrats Scott, I was laid off 2 years ago for 8 months, they eventually called me back, for $5k less a year and lost all my seniority (I was there for 8 years), but I'm glad to have a job....those 8 months sucked.
