"Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

http://www.fox59.com/news/wxin-bloom...,6845757.story

This is nuts. 16yo with amazing voice, sure she embellishes the tune, but to call it disrespectful?

What say you?

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

I don't see any issue. She did a good job IMO. She did not twist any words, and the melody was not skewed too much either. Now, if you start to change the words and change the melody so much that it's unrecognizable, then I have a problem. :2

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

I did not see what the problem was. Just about eveyone who sings the National Anthem has there own little changes they do it. I did not see her grab her crotch and spit after finishing it.

Would the Athlectic Director think that was an insult to the military also?

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

The actual news story said parents complained it was unrecognizable and disrespectful to military members, current and those who died serving our country. She was told to change the way she sang it. She did not.

I say good for her.

Sadly, I think there is one factor at play here.

Better than many if not most versions at big time sporting events.

Exactly. For a 16 year old she did a beautiful job.

I wish I could send her a letter of support.

Well it seems everyone has pretty much hit the nail on the head with what the underlying issue could be, and it's a shame.

How on earth can you know what some people have done with their own versions of the SSB and then say that this girl disrespected it?

The people of Bloomington should be ashamed.

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

I see no "direspect" -- other than those who are complaining.

I'm not sure what I am missing. At least she wasn't the clown at our minor league hockey game that started to beat box, and making scratching noises at the end.

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

Every time I here the National Anthem or Taps I get goosbumps and my eyes water. There are so many individuals who sacrificed everything for this country who will never hear those played again except from beyond the pearly gates.

Every single individual who is complaining about that young girl singing it the way she did should be ashamed of themselves. The has the courage to go forward, probably in front of many of her peers, at such a young age and sing the National Anthem.

You know what pisses me off the most is that there is nothing wrong with what she did and yet she gets banned from singing it again!?!?!?!? I HIGHLY doubt that there were any current or former servicemembers complaining about her singing about Old Glory.

Awww man...I'm twitching just sitting here

I didn't hear or see any part of the song as being disrespectful.

There is NOTHING Wrong with the way she sang that.

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

The fact that she took all the time and effort to take it to heart and make it as beautiful as she humanly could is testament to her respect. It happens day in and day out all over, I've heard hundreds of versions over the years played at ball games and so forth.
I'm very proud of her. The fact that she's left hurt after her effort just makes me sad. Unfortunately people can be real assholes when they put their mind to it.

Re: "Disrespectful" Version of National Anthem

While I am a fan of a more traditional Anthem, (I occasionally sing along, and this allows my awful voice to blend in and not sound so bad. I like to know where the notes and tempo are going.) she did a fine job. She obviously put a lot of work into practicing for her performance, and she actually got all the words right. (Something I have had the misfortune of hearing butchered many times.)
What is disrespectful, and what I do react to, is people not removing their hats, talking incessantly, and disrespecting others who would like to show their respect for their nation, their Armed Forces, and the dead by distracting from the experience.
More than a few times, I have barked at and individual or groups of people in a parking lot or in a bleacher.
It is my way, unfortunately, as tactless as it may be.

Great job and kudos to her. I have heard lots of versions where folks used a lot more "embellishment" than she did and no one was complaining.

Nothing offensive IMHO. A little different, but nicely sung (or is it sang?).

What the heck? A beautiful singer! She had a thing about reaching low notes so she went a different route a bit. So what? If she was my daughter I would be very proud of her.

Where's the disrespect? She did a great job. I'd like to see the school officials try to do a better job.

Really good voice and I didn't feel it was disrespectful at all. I've heard celebrities do alot worse and feel that some of their versions could be considered disrespectful.

The people complaining are just being racist assholes. Leave her the **** alone, she is a 16 year old girl and it takes a lot for someone to get in front of a crowd and talk, let alone sing the National Anthem. I think she did a fine job and I would be honored to have her sing at a function I attended.
