wife bought me a cheap pipe. What now?
 

I have been smoking a pipe i widdled from an apple branch for a few years now. It has come up missing during a recent move and i told her i needed a new pipe. While i was sleeping she surprised me by byuing me a $24 pipe that appears to be made from plywood or something. No brand name. I dont want to hurt her feelings and ask her to take it back and upgrade. Will this thing be worth smoking?

Good woman you got. Immediately get two more pipes and tell her it is so you can rotate. You have to smoke the one she gave you at least once so she knows you used it. Smoke the other two, one of which should be a Missouri Meerschaum. Get some aromatic tobac even if you dont like aromatic and smoke it where she can smell it once in a while.

She will be a happy woman and not kvetch even if you get 20 more pipes. Like I said you are a blessed man.

Yes she is. Treasure her for not making a freaking big deal about you smoking it. Mine does and I do it anyway. She tossed a 7 yr aged tin of english tobac because she said it was "old". I forbid her from entering my office from then on.
