Tatuaje "El Cohete"

In Spanish, El Cohete means “the rocket.” This petit robusto measures 4” by
50 ring guage. Only 50 cabinets of 25 were made for Tower Cigars in 2006,
so this was a rare treat. The cigar was light and pliant, with a very silky, milk
chocolate colored wrapper. The construction was excellent and the pre-light
draw was very easy, bordering on loose with a punch cut. Before lighting, the
body had a light smell of cedar and the pre-light draw tasted of sweet hay. An
Opossum was rummaging around in my backyard the whole time I was
reviewing this cigar. He’s become increasingly fearless of me and has become
a regular smoking buddy.

The draw upon lighting was very easy, which made for a quick combustion and
oodles of smoke, but it was necessary to smoke slowly to avoid overheating.
The initial flavors were woodsy, with some pepper in the nose and a very
short, clean finish. Scott (Shilala) mentioned in a recent thread that he didn’t
like the “black peppery pine tree flavor” that Tatuajes have. I can definitely
see where this comes from. The flavors throughout the cigar were very
woodsy, with an herbal finish that could be described as pine, but in this cigar
these flavors were rounded out with a nutty sweetness and cedary spice in the
nose that was very complementary and delicious to my palette.

There wasn’t much of a linear development of flavors, but the woodsy
background seemed to alternate between pine and cedar, with the initial
pepper subsiding gradually into spice. The smoke was buttery and smooth,
turning more earthy in the end, but it was not as dark an earthy as the Regios
of the regular Cazadores line.

This cigar did not have a great deal of depth or development, but it was rich,
delicious and complex enough to stay interesting. I was surprised that it
actually took a full hour to smoke, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was
deceptively strong, as I initially considered it a nearly mild, medium bodied
cigar, until I stood up and it sucker punched me in the gut. It had more of a
nic hit than I was expecting from the smoothness. It was divinely snorkable,
with a rich spice profile reminiscent of the Cuban Partagas marca. Despite the
rarity of this cigar, I still see them in Tat samplers in the WTS forums, so if
you get the chance to try one of these, by all means do, a definite win.
