Padron 46th anniversary

I reviewed the Padron 45th anniversary yesterday, today I decided to review the younger sibling, the 46th anniversary by Padron. These cigars are quite exclusive and very pricy, in The Netherlands they have a fixed price of 32 euro. That steep price is due to the margin that the European distributer puts on the price. The Dutch distributer had to cut part of the usual margin so he could offer them for these prices. Time for Padron to sell straight to the Dutch distributer so we can get these smokes for a more reasonable price. The 46th anniversary corona gorda is a bit shorter but way thicker than the 45th anniversary with the 5½x56 size versus a 6x52. The blend was selected after smoking over a thousand test blends.

The wrapper is dark, oily and leathery with hardly any veins. The cigar smells like hay and the construction feels great. My mouth starts to water just from the looks and the smell of this cigar and the knowledge that all anniversary cigars from Padron hit my sweetspot in the past. The predraw of this mild box pressed cigar is great, but I don't get a lot of flavor from the predraw, just some sweetness.

As soon as I light the cigar I taste a spicy but sweet coffee flavor and a lot of black pepper. The sweetness reminds me a bit of dark chocolate. That sweetness I only taste on the background though. After a quarter of an inch I taste herbs, chocolate and pepper as main flavors with the coffee as a support and a hint of nutmeg. The pepper slowly loses it strength while the chocolate grows in strength. I still taste some herbs and coffee too.

After a third some wood joins the flavor party in my mouth. The flavors are complex and full yet smooth at the same time. All of a sudden I taste some salted peanuts, a flavor that I never tasted in cigars and I like it. Salted peanuts, herbs and dark chocolate. Someone should turn that into candy, seriously. After two thirds the salty flavor disappears, just like the dark chocolate. I still taste a mild peanut flavor with some herbs. Near the end I only taste herbs with a mild sour flavor.

This corona gorda gave me two hours and five minutes pleasure. I got a lot of thick white smoke and a great draw. The burn was great too and the light gray ash is very firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied and it burns clean, I purged it and got no flame going.

Would I buy this cigar again? If I could afford them.

Appearance: 9 / 10
Construction: 8 / 10
Draw: 8 / 10
Burn: 8 / 10
Smoke & ash: 8 / 10
Aroma first part: 9 / 10
Aroma second part: 9 / 10
Aroma third part: 8 / 10

Very nice review, thanks! I saw these at my local B&M, for $32 and change, the other day. I passed.

Still looking to try the 46. I am a big fan of the 45th. So far the 45th is my favorite Padron. Another great review!

Ok, now you need to do a 44th to complete the family reserves.

Have a box of 44's on the way myself. :tu

no longer available in The Netherlands, unfortunately. Although, in 2 weeks I will be at the Dutch distributer (talking about doing some events and about the new shop he wants to open, he wants me as the shop manager), I can always ask if he still has some lying around at his warehouse.

Doing a maduro right now.

What a great smoke.
Much milder than others like the 40th, 44th, 45th and 80th.
However, still rich in flavor and no doubt taste has lots of hints of its siblings like a '26 series.

Life is good.

If you are a Padron Anni fan, I assure you it will not dissapoint.
Just keep in mind the first half will be mild and the second will kick it up a notch or two.

While pricey, a must do again.

Having had both now, the natural and the maduro, maduro is the way to go for my personal taste.

Great review! I hope that I can afford these ones day but for now I am stuck buying stuff off c-bid. Looks like a good smoke to handout when I have my first child!
