Man O War corona

The Man O War is a creation by AJ Fernandez, who used to be an apprentice of the godfather of tobacco, Alejandro Robaina. Fernandez left Cuba and started to work his magic for others like Rocky Patel and is creating his own cigars now like this Man O War, Reposado, Nica Libre and Diesel Unholy Cocktail, but he is also responsible for the Rocky Patel Fusion, ITC and Padilla Habano blends.

This 6 x 44 Corona has a nice silky wrapper with some tough looking veins. The construction feels good and the cigar has a strong barnyard aroma. The predraw is good and tastes peppery. Just by wetting the cap before punching it, I got a peppery flavor on my lips.

I taste wood, espresso and pepper, all quite strong. The espresso disappears and I am left with a bit of wood and a lot of pepper. After two inch I get some chocolate on the background and the flavors become less spicy.

Halfway the wood and pepper lose the chocolate but get accompanied by some nuts and earthy tones a bit later. At the ⅔ mark the nuts disappear too but the earthy tones stick with the wood and pepper.

I got a lot of thick smoke from this cigar. The compact ash is almost white and the burn is good. This cigar is full bodied and full flavored, but that seems to be a AJ Fernandez signature.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, this is a very nice cigar and they are on sale at the daily deal sites regularly.

I have had a few and do enjoy them. I had some draw issues with 1 of the 5 I bought, but was able to correct it.

:tpd:...the Man O War is a staple in my humi, and you can find boxes for pretty short money.

As always - a very good review that comes with great pics. I wish I had a pallette like yours. I think the Navy food I ate destroyed mine :D

Another nice review, Ferdie. If you'd like to try something milder from him, I'd say the A. Fernandez Signature and SCCC are more of a medium body, but still with excellent flavor. Probably the Reposado in the connie wrapper too, but I've only tried the habano so far.

SCCC = Sol Cubana Cuban Cabinet are pretty good ROTTT but think they'll be even better after 6 months. :tu

I picked up a bundle of the 2nds back in January. Like you said, pretty good ROTT, but a few months smooths them out very nicely. Think I'll fire one up in a bit. :ss

I really like the one I had (so much so I bought a cheap bundle of seconds) but it had a touch of the "grassiness" to it that i am sure will mellow out over 5-6 months like you said. AJ F. is fricken awesome and (to bring this thread back on track) the Man O' War is too.

Smoking my first MOW ever.?
Ferdi your review is mirroring mine. I am very suprised by this stick. Spice, leather, nuts on the finish. 1/2 way in and not as strong as i was expecting nic wise, but very good.

I will be buying more of these

I've been trying to snag a cheap box of these for weeks and always get outbid at the last second.

Its worth a sampler for sure. I will be picking up a sampler with other sizes. I was generally pleased with this stick.
