Refinishing a Humidor

I just bought a cabinet humidor off Craigslist and would like to refinish it.
Any suggestions as to what kind of stain/finish to use? I have recently refinished my hardwood floors and they still smell after 2 months.
Don't want my cigars to smell and taste like poly.

Do you have access to a compressor?

If so spray lacquer.

Its a much better finish than poly.

If its a small amount you can just buy small spray cans.

Use a rubbing or gel stain if possible.
Minwax even has a line of water based stains that finish quite nice.
