Famous Nic 3000

So I dug out a few of these from the bottom of my cooler recently. They're at least 6 years old (the last time I ordered from Famous), and they're still every bit as good as I can remember.

Does anyone know, do they still make them good like back then, or did they go down the drain like most of the good bundle smokes from yesteryear?

I have a bundle of torps that are about 1.5 years old. I really like them. I don't go back 6 years on these but about 3 years.

I think you can consider yourself fortunate S. I remember smoking a couple of robusto' from that time period, and they were very enjoyable cigars. There's a story behind that early batch of cigars that were destined to become a particular brand of cigar, I believe they were called "Series X" made by United Tobacco for Oliva. The Fuente' had an issue with the "X" as they had the "Opus X" and there appeared to be trademark infringements. Thus, the Series X did not make it onto the market under that name.

Now, I'm kinda shootin from the hip, but I'm sure there may be a few hardcore veterans here with a more accurate picture regarding the early release of the Famous 3000 series...:2

They're still the same cigar with the same blend. Changes in taste may be attributed to newer tobacco crops.

Oliva used to make a cigar for Erik Espinosa & Eddie Ortega (United Tobacco / EO Cigars). The brand was simply called 'X'. Due to similarities with 'Opus X', the Fuentes built a case and killed the brand.

We (Famous) picked up those cigars and re-packaged them. The rumor goes that they were re-banded as N3Ks. We can live with the rumor but that doesn't mean it's true. :)

And a damn good job Famous has done in maintaining these as a very affordable bundle cigar that has kept it's original profile and taste through the many years!

Sounds good enough to me, thanks Cigahs. I'll probably have to bust for a bundle or two and see how they smoke.

I really forgot how good those were until I found those old ones. Maybe I'll sit on a bundle for another few years :)

I may buy a bundle. For ~2.00 a cigar it seems like a good investment, and if these smoke as well as you guys say then it's a bargain.

I have looked at these and the 4000Nic. Seems worth a try.

Perfect fishing smokes. Not complex, not expensive - don't miss not concentrating on one, but enjoyable just the same. And, they're box-pressed and don't roll around on the boat seat!

only surpassed, IMO. by the Nic 7000. N7Ks are no longer available and they were made by Pepin. I don't know why there wasn't more buzz on them. Good for me I guess - I loaded up!!!.
Back on topic - N3K's are rockin too :tu

The 3ks are good but the 5ks are much better, if you can get them still.

Agreed, Mac gave me a chance to try some with a little age. Soon after I grabbed a bundle. These are the best value sticks I have found, can't beat the flavor to price ratio! They do not taste at all like a bundle stick.

This man stole the words right out of my mouth. The newer crop vary a tiny bit, but it's within the margin of error for same flavor/taste.
