The Sword of Truth series is completed and finished. It is darn good and pretty epic. They attempted a series of that set of novels as well but it failed as it strayed WAY off course from the books and alienated the entire fan base.

I've never understood that with producers. You have an automatic fan base built right in to any series. Why stray and so far away from the source material where the characters have the same names and that's about it? I mean if the books are so good that it developed a fan base why not attempt to be faithful to the story and attract more fans while not losing the original fans?

This doesn't seem to be the case with Game of Thrones. George R.R. Martin appears to have been very involved with the series and in the small making of segments they've had exact lines lifted from the novels in some inconsequential scenes. It appears to be very faithful to the source material.

This is exactly what happened to Robert Jordan and Wheel of Time for the middle chunk of the series, unfortunately when he realized he was dying and started to get the series back on track a) a lot of fans had already moved on and b) he didn't live long enough to finish the series.

Luckily Brandon Sanderson is a great writer and seamlessly finished the book Jordan was halfway through and has done a great job finishing up the series so far. One more book and I'll finally finish this decade long love affair (completely with ups and downs), haha.

I agree that Martin seems to have stayed true to the original story and has done a GREAT job telling to story...I just wish he could've released more than 4 books in a 15 year period :( Doesn't give me much hope that he'll finish the 7 book series by 2020, lol

I meant that they tried a TV series, it was called The Legend of the Seeker.
It lasted two seasons as it got so far off track from the books that it was just way different.

Oooooh yeah...I heard about the series and never watched it. It sounded awful.

Just watched it and thought it was pretty good. First ones are always kinda slow but this one kept my interest and with the coming attractions it definetly looks good.

I honestly think it was well done. But as someone who hasn't read the books, I wish they could have explained the overview of the kingdom just a bit, maybe through narration.

I am a big SoT fan. The show was entertaining from a TV aspect, from someone who read the series, the show was complete and utter drivel. I had to tell myself that this was purely for entertainment and in no way was trying to emulate the books, otherwise I would get angry.

Watched the premier last night and within the first 2 minutes I was so excited how closely they were sticking to the book and how well they translated those scenes into the show. I do agree though that there is some basic background that's covered in the book during the scenes that if I was watching it for the first time I would've been a little lost, but having read the series it was almost like going back and reading it again it was so well done.

So not to spoil any of it for people who haven't seen it or read the books, but so far I'm VERY impressed with the recreation of the scenes, every actor and actress matches their character in the book insanely well, and of course thank you HBO for making a great show with graphic nudity and violence. If they had taken that out it wouldn't have felt like the same story!

How can someone who has never read the books get into what's going on? Is just diving in and letting it happen going to be sufficient enough to get up to speed on the story?

First episode was pretty good. I highly doubt I will ever read the books, so this series will be my one and only reference to them.

To everyone who knows the books, please be careful with the spoilers as the tv series unfolds...(not that you guys aren't, just wanted to reiterate that there are plenty of us out here who haven't and won't read the books)

:D

Wow, after one episode? I mean, I'm sure they had a pretty good idea they would be continuing the series, but it's still great news :)

Have not watched it yet, but I don' think anything will come close to Spartacus series, full frontals (male as well) and all.
