Onion Dip

1 Large yellow onion, minced
2-4 T. Olive oil

1 1/2 C. Sour cream
1/2 C. Mayo
1/4 t. Ground cumin
1/4 t. Garlic powder
1/8 t. Allspice
Sea salt & fresh ground white pepper to taste

Cook onion in olive oil over medium low heat until brown, set aside to cool.

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Chill over night.

Re: Onion Dip

That sounds really good. I must admit that I have a lazy streak when it comes to onion dip.

It goes like this:
To 1 pint sour cream, add one packet of powdered onion soup mix and stir till well-mixed. Refrigerate until ready to use.

I am going to try your recipe though, for it sounds more tasty. Could be I'll add some minced garlic to the onion while it is browning.

If you add garlic, be sure to add it after the onion has begun to brown. Don't want to burn the garlic unless you like that bitter garlic flavor.

Can make it sans mayo in a pint of straight sour cream.

I usually do it the lazy way, like the Rev. But I might try this the next time I have a leftover onion. It sounds tasty, especially with a little curry thrown in for some zip.
