I stopped in my local purveyor of fine firearms yesterday and came home with this model 37. It's a good bookend for my faithful 36 shown in the background, and it's an Airweight so it's about a third lighter. Both these came off the assembly line back in '89.

Hey guys, looking to buy my first handgun. Looking at mostly home defense and gun range for use. Looking at Glock and M&Ps. Have shot both, and am leaning towards Glock.

Also is there any good way to get discounted prices. I have noticed Glock is almost never on sale.

Thanks for your opinions.

Check gun broker and cheaper than dirt, they will ship to your FFL. What caliber? That Glock 43 is a sweet little gun :tu

Re: Second Firearm Thread...

I have both a Glock 22 and a M&P 40c. Prefer the M&P. groupings are much better with that one.

Slickguns is another good site to find deals.

Glock and S&W have "First responder" discount programs available to police, fire, EMS, military, etc. Check for specifics. Also, Glock sponsors a regular series of matches run by their Glock Shooting Sports Foundation. Get a membership it makes you eligible for roughly the same discounts given through the First Responder program.

I'm due for a new slug flinger. I'd like a couple old 9mm's so I can duel wield, just like in Halo.

Nice Mike. I need a secondary for lightweight carry like that. I'm not sold on the .380 round though. I had considered the LC9 but lately I've heard complaints about quality.

Ya, I am lazy about carrying my 9mm in the summer when I am just wearing shorts and a t-shirt, i'll just throw this in my pocket as a last resort. They always say that any gun with you is better than your .45 at home :)

I always check out Buds for good deals and usually find their prices very competitive. I researched pocket guns quite a bit a few years ago and ended up going with the Kahr CM9 and love it. Bought a good pocket holster that was made for it and works great. The LC9's trigger to me was way too long and mushy. I also have the M&P9c and love that line, but that's not a pocket gun.

When I got my Glock 19 I joined the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation and was able to order one at the law enforcement price and it was the cheapest I could find. This was 7 years ago though I don't know if they still do it.

Re: Second Firearm Thread...

The first responder (aka Blue Label) price locally on a fourth generation model 17, 19, 22, or 23 is $425 and tax. The prices on those models in 3rd Gen is a little lower. Other less popular models are higher. Factory night sights add about $40.

I wanted to take advantage of this for a few years but my FD refused to get us updated photo IDs, a requirement of the deal from Glock. Then for unknown reasons it became imperative we all get new credentials w/photo.

So now I've gotten two model 19's with this deal in the last year.

Far as I know the GSSF deals are the same prices and are still offered by stores/ranges that host the matches. But just like the first responder program the supply of guns are sometimes limited.

I just looked them up and i was tempted to buy one as i hate appendix carry. Once they catch up on their back order i may buy one. price isnt bad and a lot of the reviews from customers were helpful.

I finally went and got my concealed carry permit, have never needed one as I can carry anywhere as an off duty officer, but I got tired of paying the extra cash for a background check when buying guns (they even make cops pay) if you don't have a CCW. Anyways all I needed was a letter from my chief, took 15 minutes :tu

Cops still have to wait the 5 day period down here if they dont have a concealed. Makes no sense.

Hell that aint a score! Thats a grand slam straight through the uprights for a safety from mid court 3 point kinda score.

Thought I would post my ridiculous gun safe in this thread. Guns later. CCW holder in California and CA law requires you to trigger lock or put in a safe your firearms that your currentry not using which generally means under your control. So if I'm going to have to buy something, might as well be useful.

I spent a bunch of time looking around and bang for buck seemed Sturdy Safe was pretty good and it supports a California business that manufactures the safes on site.

I went with the Model 3224 with the 4 AWG body upgrade. It was quite a bit cheaper last year but prices go up in CA faster then most places but 4 AWG steel safes at this price in the US are hard to find. No fire wall as you will see and that saved me a lot of money. I figure go home insurance if I get a fire as none of my weapons are collectibles.

Here is some pics:

I still need to plumb an outlet inside for a dehumidifier but using a large box of desiccant I picked up on Amazon right now as Sacramento is quite humid in the winter. Summer no big deal.

Brian D. 12-28-2015 01:30 PM

Re: Second Firearm Thread...

Us cigar and gun guys go to much fighting humidity. In our humidors we want a lot of it, but our safes must be desert dry. Guess it's always struck me funny that we spend money on both humidifying AND dehumidifying.

No, the safe does not and that would have been nice as it's DARK as hell with the black paint. After I plumb an outlet, I was going to put in an LED light string or something. It really needs it as it's a cave and my garage lighting stinks.

I need a new ballast in the overhead light fixture so some to do items.

I bought blue led strips and put them around the inside of the door frame and under the shelves, I then put them on a push button type switch that goes on when the door opens
