Humidifier broke: How to temporarily humidify

Went to my humidor this morning and my humidifier is dead - I have a new one on the way but is there anything I can do until it arrives to keep it humid in the box? Would just putting a small dish of distilled water in there work?

How big a humidor? IF its an average 100-200ct box, I would just toss in a Boveda pack or two. It should be fine for a few weeks at least.:2

Yeah it's just an average 200ct box. - I would have to order the boveda packs as well though, so not much help really. - I would need stuff I can go out an buy locally.

Don't sweat it, they should be fine for a few days until the new unit arrives.

A damp (distilled water) sponge will also work.

Also your local B&M might sell Boveda packs. I know mine does.

Why are you spending the money on active humidification in such a small humidor? :hm

I would make the investment in some beads, that never break down, and probably regulate better than an active system in such a small space. :2

Got any recommendations on the best beads to use? Would they be a set and forget kind of thing?

HCM Beads at http://www.shilalasbeads.com/
or Heartfelt beads at http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/

They are about as set and forget it as you can get. Give them a spritz of water every few weeks depending on your environment.

Both would work their magic.

:tpd: I actually have both a half a pound that's 70% and a 1/4 pound that's 65% and it holds my humi perfect at 67-68%

The results of mixing beads are likely coincidence. :2

"Spritzing" HCM beads is NOT recommended, IIRC. A dish of water in the humi recharges them in no time. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
