Temperature problem
 

My A/C in the apartment is going to get looked at. In the mean time I noticed the temperature in my room was a bit warm and when I looked inside the humidors the temperatures were about 80 degrees.

I threw a couple small bags of ice in there to bring the temperature down and they did but the humidity dropped to the 50's. This morning I wake up and again the humidor is aroudn 80 degrees. I put one in teh fridge and the other is in the living room which is noticably cooler than the bedroom.

What is causing the humidity to drop when I cool them? And will they be ok at the cooler temps while still in the humidor even with the dropped humidity. I'm deathly afraid I started the whole tobacco beatle cycle and I have some some really good sticks including some Ferals and Padrons.

Odds are you have no worries if it's only been a couple days. Put them in the fridge in the meanwhile or freeze them if you are really concerned.

Ok, so don't worry about the humidity dropping inside with the lower temps?

Edit: The one that is in teh living room is already down to 75 degrees.

They're both back down to where they normally are, about 74-75. I've put them in the pantry in the kitchen until the AC gets fixed.

Ok, so my ac won't be fixed till tomorrow. IN the mean time, the temps crept up to 80 again even in teh pantry. I've thrown both humidors in the fridge.

My question is, the humitidty. At 74-75 degrees I was holding around 67-69%. When I lowered the temps via ice bags or when I had them temporarily in the fridge over the weekend, it dropped into the 50's. Should I adjust or leave it be as it returns to normal under warmer temps.

I really hope I didn't start the tobacco beetle cycle. Does it have to be continuous time at 80 degrees or higher? Because they haven't been constant. It's been up and down and everytime it got high I cooled it down.

How big is your cigar collection and how often do you check your sticks?

Seems like overkill. A couple of days of 80 degree temps are more than likely not going to impact your cigars. If you are worried about beetles, then I recommend you freeze your cigars.

Cooling ALWAYS removes moisture from the air.

Ok. Ac fixed today. Part of this question is because i just didn't know. I was told way back when that if temps got up to 80 degrees for too long it could trigger beetles. I was never told how long is "too long". over the last four days the temps have gotten up to 80 at their peak, mid 70's at night. But since i was always told don't let it get above 75 I freaked out when i saw 80 hit.

I think Im good now. Temps were not sustained at 80. They got that high but I brought them down. They are sitting comfy now that the Ac is fixed
